Starn Twins photography

"Triple Christ" Taken by Mike and Doug Starn.
Bio (taken from http://www.wdog.com/sarah/starn_brothers.htm): "Born in 1961, college-,grad school-, Boston based. 'We've been photographing since we were 13. . .' "

This picture was taken by the Starn Twins. I see three pictures of Jesus in three different forms. The top one is broken up into a type of collage with missing pieces and holes. In the middle, it is also in a type of collage but in a darker shade where you can't see the face of Jesus and can only see the body. In the last part of the collage, the color is brighter and the type of collage is in a vertical form which is contrast to the first one which is in a chaotic form. The different arrangements in the collage gives a lot to the visual sense of the picture. The picture is organized interestingly from the light and balance. The darker picture is in the middle, and the lighter one is in the bottom. There is not set order of things. The picture gives a sort of melancholy emotion when you look in the picture because of the torn pictures that look very antique. The textures are different from the way the collage is organized. In the first third of the picture, the texture is intense and rough. In the middle, the texture is much more smooth and in the last third, the picture has a pattern texture. Through this piece, I think that the artist is trying to convey the melancholy ending that Jesus had to go through. His life also had a mixture of going through darkness, light, and in between. I think that this piece was very interesting and portrayed it's emotion deeply. The work is very successful in their use of different types of texture and light contrast. I find this piece very interesting to look at. Even the frame contributes to the message that the artists were trying to convey in this piece. I would not change anything in this picture because it would take away from the bold message.
